Video workflow
How to turn a long video into YouTube Shorts
A useful Short keeps one complete idea or moment. The work starts with choosing that moment carefully, then checking what the vertical format changes.
Start with a moment that stands alone
Look for a clear payoff: an answer, reveal, reaction, demonstration or decisive piece of gameplay. A viewer should understand why the moment matters without watching the full recording. Include the shortest piece of setup needed to make the result meaningful.
Protect the vertical crop
Landscape recordings contain more width than a 9:16 Short can show. Check that the speaker, gameplay action or important interface remains visible in the vertical frame. If the subject moves, review the whole clip rather than judging one still frame.
Review captions as writing
Automatic captions need a human check. Correct names, game terminology and punctuation. Keep each phrase short enough to read on a phone, and make sure captions do not cover faces, controls or the central action.
Keep the original point intact
A shorter edit can accidentally remove a condition, qualification or punchline. Watch the exported Short without referring to the original. If its meaning changed, restore the missing context or choose a different moment.
Check before scheduling
- Watch once with sound and once muted.
- Confirm the first second makes sense immediately.
- Check the vertical crop from beginning to end.
- Correct every caption and proper name.
- Use only footage and music you have the right to publish.
- Write a title that describes the actual moment.
